This is a Trelona ATBS (Advanced Termite Baiting Systems) trap crawling with termites. What this means is all these termites will die. Some will take the poison back to the colony, potentially causing colony collapse.

Often mistaken for the Sydeny Funnelweb, the trapdoor species is found up and down the east coast of Australia. Generally not considered dangerous because their bit will only inflict local swelling and pain, they sure look the part.

You don't want to find this inside your wall cavity. Often termites visit the home for food, taking it back to the nest. In this instance, the termites set up home in the home.

This is a great example of a termite nest. Havign something like this on your fence is definitely too close to the home.

This image shows you how insidiously clever termites are. Prior to finding termite damage like this, this window frame can look like a perfectly good and healthy piece of timber. They eat out everything while keeping the surface intact.

Not only has every termite that ate from this canister died, they have also potentially taken the poison back to the termite nest to poison the entire colony.

This is termite mudding, a mud tube created by termites to allow them to traverse between locations. They can use this mudding to create little termite highways. This is exactly the sort of thing we're looking for when doing inspections. And exactly the sort of thing we hope, for the owner's sake, not to find.

This home had been inspected by another pesty exactly one month prior to our inspection. This is what we found. Not only have termites been here for some time, they've also done considerable damage. This is why you have to be extremely careful when choosing your pest inspector.
